So, I know pretty much everyone involved in this forum knows Grimpths songs, and there's a whole lot of them aren't on this new EP.... What's everyones favorite Grimpths song? it's a tough question, i know. I would say my new favorite is Dog in a Cage, I've liked it forever, but the new recording of it is like my favorite Smashing Pumpkins song X 10. Runners-up are The Orb, Bee Business, Toaster Pastries and Midge in the Fridge.

I'd say my favorite Grimpths song is definitely "Bee Business." It is so catchy, fun, bouncy, funky, and driving. I love how varied it is. Plus, the vocal harmonies are very exciting. But "The Job" (also not featured on "Seed") is a close second. There's no way that the Grimpths won't record our other classics--The Orb, The Job, Conservative College, I'm Coming Up, Midge in the Fridge, Toaster Pastries, Ghoats (Yes, that is how it's spelled.), etc.. We simply had a budget and time limit, so we picked some of the most varied and popular songs for Seed. If you want to hear those other songs, you can watch live performances of some of them on our Youtube channel.

Dialogue with Death The Job and Contra Medley! I suppose the last one doesn't really count, as it was EZ-Cheese who performed it, but I don't care! The Grimpths should perform it as well. Any comment on that Shane? Also have you considered setting up a paypal account or something for studio time/recording donations?

Ez Cheez and the Grimpths are one and the same, Paul. Different in name only. And actually, we've been working on the contra medley again. We'll most assuredly be playing that one live sometime in the near future. For those of you who don't know about this, The Grimpths started out with just Shane, Curtis and Scott under the name "Ez Cheez" back in 1999. One of our interests was in video game music, so we learned a collection of songs from the old NES game "Contra." Arranged for two guitars, bass and drums by Curtis, this medley was one of our most popular pieces. We haven't played it live since 2002, but now it's in the works again. Continue attending live performances and you may be surprised. Paul, about the paypal account, we do actually have one. I hadn't considered asking for money, but who knows, maybe people would want to support the arts enough to actually help us. I mean, the only thing that held us back from recording songs like The Job, the Orb, and more is budget. Tell me what you are thinking. -Shane

Well, the reason I brought it up is my friend Dallen who plays in a local band (Never Before) recently recorded a new E.P. and I remember at some point they had an account into which you could donate for their recordings, though I'm not sure how well it did for them.
In any case, my logic is it couldn't hurt to put up a link on this site and your myspace. It might take a few minutes to code it, but I'd think that to be a reasonable investment of time.
Worst case scenario: I'm the only person to donate : )
You might also consider when/how long you keep that link up. It might be more effective to promote it in the immediate timeframe of acquiring studio time, or maybe in the long run it would be best to always have it up.
Well, that's as much brainstorming as I can muster at nearly one in the morning, maybe it's a waste of time....or maybe it's GENIUS!
Anyway, good to hear that you guys intend on playing Contra live again. It must have been six or seven years ago I heard y'all perform it in some residential backyard, it was an awesome show until some cops came and broke it up! |

As many people in the beautiful valley of Black Out Mountain, Snap Snop Villa, G-Town and other areas of the globe have known for eons, EZ Cheez and The Grimpths are NOT the same. Much differences besides the name are abound! This situation reminds me the classic cartoon, Marmaduke. Just like the family that owns the dog remains intact, the postman most assuredly changed or died along the way. His letters from relatives brought news of change as well as birthday money. Later we learn that Marmaduke grew up and evolved into Hobbs. Or Lou, the bar owner in Fight Club, I can't remember which. So we see here, that The Grimpths are a seperate entity from anything past.

Dr. Teeth is certainly correct in saying that the Grimpths is an entirely different entity than Ez Cheez. This is true in the same way that each of us is completely different from the person we were six years ago. Although the Grimpths are offspring of Ez Cheez, the Grimpths features the talents and skills of the immortal Dallas Sinquefield, and Ez Cheez could boast of no such thing. However, The Grimpths are also the same as Ez Cheez in the same way that a delicious chicago-dog is the same as a weiner on a grill, a pile of onions, a hot bun, and mustard and ketchup in the bottle. But don't think that the Grimpths ARE Ez Cheez, because they aren't. They're the Grimpths. They may have the same musical tastes and goals as Ez Cheez. Heck, they may even play some songs originally written by the band called "Ez Cheez," but they are the Grimpths. They are the chicago dog. Ez Cheez is like the retired German pilot with an eating disorder, The Grimpths is like that pilot's nephew who is also a pilot but doesn't have an eating disorder. Instead he split his physical body into 4 entities and named himself Shane, Curtis, Scott and Dallas then bought instruments and started a band called the Grimpths. Got it? -Shane
